Role Purpose (Mission)
The primary mission of the Sales and Business Development Manager (Japan) is to build Banner’s market presence and establish sustainable, long-term cooperation with key Japanese airlines. The successful candidate will drive direct sales, map out regional growth opportunities, and deliver a qualified, continuously growing portfolio of commercial airline and domestic operator accounts.
Geographic Scope
Japan. Priority targets for establishing long-term partnerships include: All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), Air Do, Peach Aviation, StarFlyer, Solaseed Air, Jetstar Japan, Fuji Dream Airlines, and all other regional operators and MRO hubs with active Western-built aircraft operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Relationship Management: Build, maintain, and develop deep, long-term strategic relationships with purchasing departments and key decision-makers within major Japanese airlines and the MRO industry
- Direct Sales & Market Coverage: Execute direct sales of aviation services and aircraft parts. Determine growth opportunities to ensure effective market coverage and increase existing business share
- Client Portfolio Development: Develop every commercial airline and operator flying Western aircraft across Japan. Build, qualify, and maintain an active portfolio of contacts within airline procurement, supply chain, and technical departments
- Deal Execution: Conduct effective business negotiations, navigate complex transactions, handle objections, and successfully close deals while maintaining impeccable customer relationships
- Market Intelligence & Strategy: Monitor and analyze sales figures and trends. Participate in market and competition research, generate new business development ideas, and actively engage in marketing campaigns (events, promotions, and presentations)
Required Profile & Qualifications
- Industry Experience: Proven track record of success in the aviation aftermarket industry (direct sales of aircraft parts, MRO, PMA, or OEM sourcing)
- Network: Active, established relationships with purchasing departments, supply chain, and engineering decision-makers within Japanese airlines (such as ANA, JAL, and regional carriers)
- Expertise: Expert knowledge in the field of supply and/or repair of aircraft components, with a solid understanding of airworthiness maintenance and after-sales service
- Negotiation Skills: Strong skills in conducting business negotiations within the Japanese corporate environment, with a proven ability to maintain long-term client loyalty
- Mindset: A highly proactive, self-motivated, and entrepreneurial sales professional who thrives in an individual contributor role, possesses a deep understanding of Japanese business etiquette, and is strictly focused on revenue and operational discipline
Compensation & Structure
- Base retainer + highly competitive commission structure on closed business
- Independent contractor (work as an agent)
- Remote work with regular progress report meetings
- Professional development: training, courses, and seminars. Mentorship
- Business trips: regular trips and customer meetings throughout the region. Subject to prior approval
