role purpose (mission)
The Area Director will build and manage the Business Development function in China and establish a sustainable commercial platform in the market. The top priority is to build, lead, and develop a productive regional team. The Area Director will also personally support strategic customer relationships and major opportunities, turning access into repeat, profitable business.
Reports to: Global Head of Business Development
Role purpose: Build and lead our commercial presence across China. Grow revenue, expand key accounts, and convert market access into profitable, repeat business.
Geographic scope: China (Mainland)
Work setup: Remote within China with regular domestic travel; employment type: Independent Contractor (agent)
your experience
- Required:
- Proven success in the aviation aftermarket in China (aviation parts, MRO, PMA, or OEM sourcing)
- Active relationships with decision-makers in Chinese airlines, MROs, and leasing companies (procurement, supply chain, asset management, engineering)
- Strong track record building, mentoring, and managing sales/BD professionals in China
- Cultural and regulatory fluency, including Chinese business practice (guanxi) and Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) frameworks
- Entrepreneurial, proactive mindset focused on immediate revenue and operational discipline
- Professional English (C1+); fluent Mandarin Chinese
- Highly desirable:
- Experience with vendor approvals, RFQs, tenders, and long-cycle deals at major Chinese operators
- Knowledge of Western aircraft fleets operating in China and local repair/vendor ecosystems
responsibilities:
- Primary point of contact: Ensure deep understanding of local operating requirements, CAAC standards, and Chinese business etiquette
- Organization building: Design and build a lean, high-impact team; recruit and manage local professionals who deliver near-term revenue
- Client portfolio development: Map commercial, low-cost, and cargo operators using Western aircraft; build and maintain a live portfolio of decision-makers across procurement, technical, and executive levels
- Sales execution: Move opportunities from relationship to RFQ, tender, vendor approval, first order, and repeat business; personally lead strategic deals
- Revenue enablement: Hand off qualified accounts to Banner’s commercial teams and provide local support to close high-value opportunities
- Pipeline and reporting: Maintain accurate CRM data, KPIs, forecasts, and regular reports to the Global Head of Business Development
- Market intelligence: Track competitors, localized pricing, regulatory changes, and product gaps; represent Banner at key events (e.g., Airshow China—Zhuhai, MRO China)
- Compliance: Operate within applicable trade, export, and company policies
work conditions:
- Setup: Remote within China; frequent travel to major aviation hubs
- Status: Independent Contractor (agent), final arrangement based on location and local requirements
- Travel: Regular in-country travel for customer meetings, team leadership, and industry events; occasional international travel as needed
- Compensation: Monthly retainer/base plus competitive commission on closed business; possible override on team-generated revenue
